| | MAJOR VISUAL EFFECTS HOUSES, GAME DEVELOPERS AND TRAINING ORGANIZATIONS MAKE THE MOVE TO SOFTIMAGE|XSI --Consistent and extensive R&D provides significant productivity and creative enhancements--
Montreal, Quebec –September 12th, 2003 – Softimage Co., a subsidiary of Avid Technology, Inc. will be at IBC 2003 (RAI Exhibition and Congress Centre, Balcony Suite B23, Amsterdam, September 12 – 16). Throughout the show, Softimage will be showcasing the recently released version 3.5 of SOFTIMAGE®|XSI®, the industry’s leading nonlinear 3-D production environment. In addition, attendees of IBC 2003 will have the opportunity to see how the SOFTIMAGE|BEHAVIOR™ system facilitates the development of unique behavioral simulations and how easily this system can be integrated into a wide variety of 3-D production pipelines. Customers presenting recent projects done using the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment include Spans & Partner with their Jägermeister commercial and Peerless Camera Company, who will screen selected clips from Roberto Benigni’s Pinocchio. Work from some of the most influential players in the European Film and Broadcast markets, such as The Mill, Glassworks, Films Action, Studio AKA and The Hive will also be shown.
Softimage’s presence at IBC highlights the number of visual effects houses, game developers and training centers worldwide that are making the move to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software. Animation studio Action Synthèse switched to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment mid-production for the upcoming feature film The Magic Roundabout and they will be showing demo material from their remake of this ’60s children’s cult classic at IBC.
Softimage’s technology leadership in the film, broadcast and games/interactive markets is due to the company’s consistent and extensive R&D, exemplary production support, and the significant ROI and creativity benefits that its software offers.
“We are seeing a rapid increase in the number of production pipelines moving to our SOFTIMAGE|XSI software to take advantage of the system’s superior creative and productivity attributes, all of which contribute to a more profitable bottom line,” says Michael Stojda, managing director of Softimage. “At IBC 2003 we’re proud to showcase the work of many leading European companies using XSI and give people the chance to learn more about the benefits the can realize from upgrading their pipelines to the industry’s leading nonlinear 3D production environment.”
Recent companies making the move to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software in the film industry include Animal Logic for its production of Happy Feet, the visual effects-intensive, animated feature film directed by George Miller (Babe), which is scheduled for delivery in 2005. The SOFTIMAGE|XSI software has also recently been used to create cutting-edge special effects in feature films such as The Matrix Reloaded, Tomb Raider II, Terminator III and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.
Worldwide game development companies are also placing the SOFTIMAGE|XSI program at the core of their pipelines to achieve success in the market. The next-generation of games, which will offer a more interactive and highly stylized gaming environment than ever before, have been or are currently being developed using the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment. Recent conversions to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI system include Capcom for its flagship title, Onimusha 3; Valve, who used the SOFTIMAGE|XSI program exclusively to create breathtaking content for its award-winning title Half-Life 2; and Konami Computer Entertainment Japan, to create its worldwide mega-hit franchise Metal Gear Solid 3. In addition, Ubi Soft® Entertainment, one of the world's largest and most successful video game producers and publishers, purchased SOFTIMAGE|XSI to develop film-quality cinematics and high-end animation for upcoming titles including the widely anticipated multi-platform game, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time™, the latest title in the multi-million selling Prince of Persia® series.
Major training centers are now offering a range of courses on the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software as demand for the products grows. These include: Digital Asia School of Animation, The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Konami School Japan and University of South California. All these centers have chosen to educate the next generation of visual effects artists, filmmakers and game developers on the industry’s leading 3-D software.
In addition to its revolutionary 3-D production pipeline software, Softimage offers a range of service options – from standard maintenance to customized production support for assistance during any phase of a project – that make it compelling for customers using competitive solutions to migrate to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software. Free plug-in converters are also available to facilitate conversion from other software products to the SOFTIMAGE|XSI environment – a capability that many companies are using during the migration process.
